Caspary was the only woman in U.S. history to be The Mother General of a Catholic order of sisters and president of an inclusive ecumenical community. A national figure in the Catholic feminist movement, she represented bold leadership and the new power claimed by women. For this she was featured on the cover of TIME magazine February 23, 1970.
